Lake Kab is the gateway to Voyageurs National Park with access to the Ash River, Namakan, Sand Point, Crane and Rainy Lakes plus the BWCA and Ontario's Quetico Provincial Park. You have literally millions of acres of northern Minnesota and southern Ontario at your doorstep! Next year, the 2010 Minnesota Governors Fishing Opener will be held at Lake Kab. Governor Tim Pawlenty will be bringing hundreds of guests with him to the Lake Kab area for some great fishing.
The communities of Lake Kabetogama and nearby Ash River offer a range of facilities including dining, resorts, houseboat rentals, campgrounds, convenience stores, fishing guides, outfitters and marinas. The Gateway Store has groceries, gas, bait and tackle, etc. The Bait and Bite serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and also has a large tackle and bait selection. Voyageur Marine can take care of any boat problems you might have. The Rocky Ledge Resort serves great meals and has a full bar for your favorite beverage.
The best lodging deal on the lake is Grandview Tall Timber Resort located near Woodenfrog Campground on Waltz Road. They have exceptionally clean, nicely furnished cabins with some of the nicest views of the lake from the cabin decks. Their rates are the best on the lake. They have five cabins on the Tall Timbers side of the peninsula and five on the Grand View side. They are quite popular so you may want to reserve early. Check them out at www.grandviewtalltimber.com.
This is a four-season recreation area. The miles and miles of lakes and waterways offer world-class fishing from May-October then freeze over to welcome some of the best ice fishing around! Snowmobiling is a popular winter pastime with access to many miles of trails in both Minnesota and Ontario. Cross-country skiers and snowshoe enthusiasts may enjoy the solitude of the back country and wilderness areas.
Ice fishing is nearly here. Kabetogama has some great winter fishing, as would be expected. Some of the resorts are open through the winter for snowmobiler's and ice fisherman.
